12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen is developing a BBC drama focused on the black experience in Britain, The Daily Mail reports.

"I don't think there has been a serious drama series in Britain with black people from all walks of life as the main protagonists," McQueen said.

2014 Golden Globes predictions

The project will be "epic in scope," covering a group of friends and their families in West London from 1968 to 2014.

Though the drama is in its very early stages, McQueen says it could be ready to film by next year. In the meantime, he plans on developing the idea through workshops with actors and writers.
