The Star Trek Series Premiere Has a Director

David Semel will direct the first episode of Bryan Fuller's new Star Trek series.

The first episode of the much-anticipated reboot will debut on CBS in January 2017, before the show moves to its permanent home on CBS All Access, CBS' streaming service.

Semel previously directed the first episodes of Amazon's critically acclaimed drama The Man in the High Castle, which premiered last fall, and David E. Kelley's upcomingBilly Bob Thorton drama, Goliath. He also has a long history with CBS, directing the pilots of Madame Secretary, Code Blackand Person of Interest.

Fuller, Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers of the new Star Trek series, but few other details are known at this time. More is expected to be revealed on Saturday, when Fuller moderates the Star Trek 50th anniversary panel.
