Hold on to your butts, Trekkies. We have our first look at Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery and there's a familiar face dropping by.
The new teaser, which dropped Friday at Comic-Con, features the anticipated arrival of (a very dashing) Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount ) as he takes control of the USS Discovery to face an imminent threat -- mysterious red orbs that are linked to Spock. YES, Spock!
The preview also gave a first look at Tig Notaro as Denise Reno, Chief Engineer of the Federation ship Hiawatha. See them in action in the preview above, and in the thrilling new photos below.
Discovery's new showrunner Alex Kurtzman also revealed that ahead of the new season, CBS All Access will release four 10 to 15-minute stand-alone episodes titled Star Trek: Short Treks. These mini-episodes, which arrive in monthly installments this fall, will explore the backstories of side characters like the infamous smuggler Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson), who double-crossed Lorca (Jason Isaacs) and Tyler (Shazad Latif) back in Season 1. Wilson will direct the Mudd-centric episode in addition to reprising the role.
Additional episodes include one focused on Underground's Aldis Hodge as Craft, a man stranded aboard a deserted ship, a deeper exploration of Saru's (Doug Jones) backstory as Starfleet's first Kelpian and Tilly's (Mary Wiseman) unlikely friendship aboard the U.S.S. Discovery.
Star Trek: Discovery will return for Season 2 in 2019 on CBS All Access.
