He's probably the second-most famous man whose face you wouldn't be able to pick out of a lineup.
Actor Javier Botet has earned a number of highly recognizable silver screen roles, but he's never quite reached household name status of his own. Why? Well, despite nabbing the title part in several films (Mama and Slender Man among them), his true visage has always been buried beneath a mountain of makeup and prosthetics.
Now, he's taking that chameleonic cinematic presence to the small screen to appear in Star Trek: Discovery's second season for a new mystery role.
The actor confirmed to Bloody-Disgusting, "I can tell you I'll be working in Star Trek: Discovery in Toronto. It's going to be a very cool role, so I can't wait to see it. I've been working with my friendDoug Jones, another monster performer. I hope you see it very soon."
Jones, of course, stars as Kelpian science officer Saru in the show, but Botet hasn't indicated if his makeup regimen will resemble Jones' for the show. He teased the site of his character, "It's an old creature but I'm not going to tell you what creature."
Botet and Jones previously worked together in Crimson Peak.
"I met him a long time ago. Doug Jones is an amazing, lovely person and I was so happy to meet him because I admire his work," Botet said of the chance to reunite for the show.
Whatever it is, Botet's character also joins incoming Season 2 additions Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and Spock (Ethan Peck) for the new season — although, his participation in the new season may be more limited than most. The thesp could only confirm his involvement in a single episode.
Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 premieres Jan. 17, 2019 on CBS All Access.
(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS.)
