Sharlto Copley has landed the lead role in Sony Pictures Television's upcoming Powers series for PlayStation, TVGuide.com has learned.

Copley, whose film credits include District 9 and Maleficent, will star as Detective Christian Walker, the dapper and charismatic main character of the comics on which the series is based. He'll star opposite Susan Heyward, who will play Detective Deena Pilgrim. Together, they're assigned to protect humans and investigate the Powers — people with superhuman abilities who battle each other above the earth.

Walker is described as having "the dissolute air of a faded rock star and the body of a battered heavyweight," who jumps first and thinks later. Once capable of superpowers, Walker lost his abilities in a battle with a superhuman mass killer and now uses his expertise to help law enforcement officials investigate crimes in the Powers community.

In addition, Michelle Forbes (24True Blood) has been tapped to play Retro Girl, the undisputed superstar of the Powers community who's an icon of justice, selflessness and business acumen. Forbes was recently nominated for an Emmy for her role as Mitch Larsen on The Killing.
