Upright Citizens Brigade's Katie McKinnon is joining Saturday Night Live for the show's next new episode, Deadline reports.

The announcement comes after the show lost cast member Paul Brittain in January and amidst speculation about Kristen Wiig's status for next season. The Bridesmaids star's contract is up at the end of this season, which is her seventh on the show. Because of this uncertainty, SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels has been testing new female performers including McKinnon and several others.

Modern Family's Sofia Vergara is "excited" for SNL gig

McKinnon, best known for Logo's The Big Gay Sketch Show, is also the first openly gay cast member in the show's history.

Modern Family's Sofía Vergara will host the next new SNL episode on April 7.
