Sigourney Weaver has landed the lead in USA' Political Animals miniseries.

Slated to premiere in the summer, Political Animals will focus on Elaine Barrish (Weaver), a divorced former first lady and current secretary of state who struggles to keep her family together as she deals with the State Department's crises. She strikes an unlikely friendship with a journalist who has spent her career tearing Elaine down.

USA gets political with Greg Berlanti miniseries

As previously announced, Lone Star's James Wolk will play Doug, one of Elaine's sons who serves as her chief of staff. Brittany Ishibashi will play Doug's fiancée.

A three-time Oscar nominee, the actress is well-known for her roles in Aliens, Working Girl, Ghostbusters and Avatar. She has also been Emmy-nominated for her work in Snow White: A Tale of Terror and Prayers for Bobby.
Political Animals comes from Greg Berlanti (Brothers & Sisters, Dirty Sexy Money), who wrote and will direct the pilot, as well as serve as an executive producer with Laurence Mark.
