HBO and Paramount Television are developing a television series based on the 2010 thriller Shutter Island, Deadline.com reports.

The series is tentatively titled Ashecliffe and the pilot (like the movie) will be directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Dennis Lehane, who also authored the book on which the film was based. The series would take place before the events depicted in the film, and will focus on the "secrets and misdeeds" of the founders of Ashecliffe mental hospital.

This won't be the first time HBO and Scorsese have teamed up. The Oscar winner directed the pilot of Boardwalk Empire and is also currently working on an untitled 1970s rock 'n' roll project with producer Mick Jagger andBoardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter.
