Shira Lazar, host of the Emmy-nominated Web series What's Trending, is the first guest curator of TVGuide.com's new mobile app.

Lazar has selected 12 of her favorite cable and Web original series and has offered her personal commentary on each choice.

On the cable side, Lazar likes AMC's Breaking Badand HBO's The Newsroomand Girls.Of the latter, she says, "It reminds me of a less glamorous, cartoony, fantastical version of Sex and the City. It's raw; it's real. You relate to all the characters. ... Lena Dunham is a genius. She is fearless on camera."

Her favorites also includethe YouTube series Nerdist's 4 Pointsand the women-centric WIGS, Netflix's upcoming revival of Arrested Developmentand, of course, her own show, What's Trending.

What's Trending, a live weekly talk show, recently switched to a daily schedule (noon/PT on its YouTube channel). In addition to showcasing videos, the show offers original content, celebrity interviews, and commentary from Lazar and her guests on the latest news stories.

What's Trending to offer daily fix of YouTube's finest

A new guest curator will share his or her picks on the mobile app each week. Future guest curators include Wilson Cleveland, creator, executive producer and co-star of Hulu's original series Leap Year, and Mike Proulx, senior vice president and director of digital strategy at ad agency Hill Holliday and the author of Social TV: How Marketers Can Reach and Engage Audiences by Connecting Television to the Web, Social Media, and Mobile.
