It is a glorious day for Shameless fans.
On Thursday afternoon, it appeared as if the official Shameless Twitter account had been hacked by Gallavich fans refusing to give Showtime the new password unless the pay cable network announced that Noel Fisher, one half of the show's beloved Ian Gallagher (Cameron Monahan) and Mickey Milkovich (Fisher) couple, returned to the show for Season 10. Then a video popped up in which Fisher confirmed he will reprise the role in the upcoming season, proving the whole thing was just an elaborate social media stunt.
In the video, Fisher announced, while in character as Mickey, that he's digging his way out of prison. Although it's taking longer than he'd like, he will definitely return to the show. Prison is, of course, where we last saw the fan favorite character. He transferred to the Chicago penitentiary to be Ian's bunkmate after the latter was sent to jail for the arson crimes he committed as Gay Jesus in Season 8.
Showtime announced in January that Monaghan would return as a series regular for Season 10. Days later, Monaghan told TV Guide that he'd like to see the show focus more on Ian maturing and taking care of himself rather than his romantic status. While that's perfectly valid, that position didn't sit too well with Gallavich fans, but now they can rest easy; Fisher's video confirms that Mickey will be at least somewhat involved in Ian's post-prison life.
Fisher's return comes after series star Emmy Rossum departed the series at the end of Season 9. The new season will focus on how the dysfunctional Gallagher clan will get along without their makeshift matriarch there to take care of them.
Shameless will return next TV season on Showtime.
