It's practically a full-on movie!
Shadowhunters'cancellation last spring was an unexpected catastrophe for the show, which was just starting to get some solid feet under it, and for the fans who loved it dearly. Luckily, Freeform has gifted the show with a series finale to wrap up all the dangling storylines. And now we know it's going to be even longer than we expected.
When the series finale was first announced, Freeform estimated it would be a two-hour event, but now that all is said and done and edited, it turns out the finale will be two-and-a-half hours. That's... longer than most superhero movies!
Though the fans' "Save Shadowhunters" campaign didn't end up bringing the show back from the dead, it's no doubt their ceaseless efforts (flying a #SaveShadowhunters banner over Netflix headquarters; renting a billboard in Times Square; launching a London bus campaign; and raising over $20,000 for The Trevor Project) were heard by the right people if Freeform is willing to dedicate such a huge chunk of time to finishing Clary's (Katherine McNamara) and her friends' story the right way.
Additionally, Freeform announced that it would match fans' $25,000 donation to the Trevor Project in celebration of the Shadowhunters series and what it stands for.

"I think the most gratifying and most heartwarming feeling I get is when that money is transferred to a charity in the name of Shadowhunters and the name of the fandom and the name of all the guys that have worked so hard up here," Dominic Sherwood told TV Guide on the set of their series finale last year. "If someone can really benefit from that, then that's great, and I think that's what we should keep doing. The Trevor Project, we raised a lot of money for that, which was fantastic, and I think if we can keep doing that in the name of Shadowhunters then that's the best legacy we can leave."
"The charity efforts are really good," Matthew Daddario said, "because it's not just selfish, it's not just, 'We want our show back,' it's also, 'Look we have this show that we bonded over, and we're going to try to do something for the community, and really support something that's good for all people, The Trevor Project.' It's really kind of touching."
Shadowhunters' series finale will air Monday, May 6 at 8/7c on Freeform.
