It is safe to say that the Shadowhunters fandom pretty much lost its mind when the latest trailer for Season 3B teased that we'd be getting a Malec dance scene.
In a "blink and you'll miss it" clip (but honestly, Malec fans miss nothing), you can spot Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) twirling gracefully into Alec's (Matthew Daddario) arms in what's sure to be a swoon-worthy scene. The dance floor is familiar territory for Harry Shum Jr., who cut his teeth as Glee's resident dance aficionado, but it was apparently less exciting for his scene partner, Matthew Daddario.
"It was fun because we got to see Matt Daddario turn white when he found out he had to dance," Shum Jr. told TV Guide at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. "But you know what? Surprisingly, he's really good! You know when you watch Dancing with the Stars and you see athletes dance, some just like can't and some can because they have rhythm... he took on that side, and once he understood — you had to explain it to him in sports terms, and when you did that he was like great! He picked everything up really quickly... I kind of said, 'You have to memorize it, it's muscle memory,' and then when he factored that into it, it just became something that was — he took it on."
It looks like we should expect not one but two footloose fellas when Shadowhunters returns for the back half of Season 3! As if that weren't excellent enough, executive producer Darren Swimmer also tweeted the news that this dancing thing would not be a one-time event for Alec. "Spoiler alert - that episode will not be the last time you see Alec dance," he wrote.
We have truly been blessed. Now we just have to figure out what could possibly entice Alec to dance not once, but twice? Hm... the mind races.
.@MatthewDaddario can cut a rug. @lindsayjoane, if Matt were on Dancing with the Stars he would be hard to beat. Spoiler alert - that episode will not be the last time you see Alec dance. https://t.co/JwrmM7loP5— Darren Swimmer (@DSwim) February 6, 2019
