Sean Hayes has landed a recurring role on Season 2 of NBC's Broadway drama, the network announced Monday.
Hayes will play Terrence Falls, a television and movie actor making his Broadway debut in the musical Liaisons, based on the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Falls is "a major thorn in the side" of Megan Hilty's Ivy Lynn and other characters, according to NBC. It's unclear how much interaction Hayes' character will have with Julia, who is played by Will & Grace star Debra Messing.
The former star will bring real-life theater experience to the role. In 2011, he was nominated for a Tony award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in Promises, Promises.
Hayes will be juggling several television gigs this season. In addition to his Smash role, he'll be guest-starring in several episodes of Up All Night as the former accompanist to Ava (Maya Rudolph). He's also an executive producer of the NBC drama Grimm.
