Is this the saddest Bond theme yet?

"Writing's On the Wall," Sam Smith's theme song for the upcoming James Bond movie Spectre, has been released and is exactly what you would expect from Smith -- vulnerable, introspective and a little sad. And though "Writing's On the Wall" is no "Skyfall," James Bond is about reinvention and we're happy Smith didn't try to follow in Adele's footsteps.

"I tried to put myself in the shoes of Bond," Smith told NPR's Morning Edition. "My music is a diary and it's a recap of my life, and I wanted to bring that kind of honesty. In the lyrics -- 'How do I live, how do I breathe? / When you're not here I'm suffocating' -- I wanted a touch of vulnerability from Bond, where you see into his heart a little bit."

Smith wrote the song with his collaborator Jimmy Napes in under half an hour and the quick demo they recorded for it wound up being so good, they ended up using it in the final version. Check out the full track below.
