O'Neal's lack of recognition may be an extension of his feelings toward his four children. In the interview, O'Neal, said he is no longer in touch with most of his children and that he would "take back" having some of them."I don't think I was supposed to be a father," he said. "Just look around at my work — they're either in jail or they should be."O'Neal had Tatum, 45, and Griffin, 44, with first wife Joanna Moore; son Patrick, 42, with actress Leigh Taylor-Young; and son Redmond, 24, with Fawcett. Redmond is currently serving a sentence for violating his probation on drug charges and Tatum was busted in June 2008 on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.O'Neal also said he would change how he dealt with Fawcett during their sometimes tumultuous relationship." "I would have been much kinder, more understanding, more mature," he said. "I'd lose some of the savagery. I don't know how she got cancer; maybe some of it was me."
