Ryan O'Neal: Redmond "Made a Promise" to Fawcett to Turn His Life Around

Ryan O'Neal says his son Redmond made a promise to his dying mother Farrah Fawcett to straighten out his life.

O'Neal told the Todayshow's Meredith Vieira that Redmond made "a promise — a promise of a good life. Of a life that she would be proud of. Because he is her legacy. Now he knows that finally. It's clear."

The Charlie's Angels star, who died on June 25, had not seen her son since April when he was released from a yearlong inmate rehab treatment program to visit her. He was also allowed to attend Farrah's funeral, where he and his father served as pallbearers, but he remained handcuffed throughout the entire ceremony.

"I'm the new rock, I'm using what she taught me to survive, go on and care for my son Redmond. And I have launched into this massive job of answering the mail that has come in for her over the last few weeks," O'Neal told Vieira. "I send it on to Redmond so that he can see what people felt about his mother. And it gives him strength to carry on his fight too because he's in a dogfight out there."
