Riverdale: At Least One Person Is Stoked About Archie and Veronica's Breakup

Worst Father of the year, perhaps?

It's been a rough road for romantics watching Riverdalethis season -- specifically, those wanting a happy ending for Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes). The lovebirds held strong through Archie's prison sentence, but yet another push from Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) led to the couple splitting up in last week's episode.

Archie decided it wasn't safe for him in Riverdale anymore, so he hit the road with Jughead (Cole Sprouse) with no intention of returning -- which meant a tearful phone call to break up with Veronica, who has spent all season trying to secure his freedom. It was the most heartbreaking moment yet for the couple and will surely have repercussions going into the second half of the season. But there is one person who is very excited to see the young lovers at odds: Hiram Lodge.

"Well, [Hiram] loves it. I mean, [Archie] left her alone. He abandoned her, what could be better than that?" Consuelos told a small group of reporters during a recent visit to the Riverdale set. "I guess [Hiram] finding Archie and taking care of him would be better but, yeah, of course."

Of course, Veronica and Archie breaking up isn't the end of Hiram's crusade. Even though the mob boss swears he loves his daughter, he's not above exploiting her pain to make sure that Archie Andrews is out of the picture once and for all.

"[Hiram] capitalizes on the fact that she's upset, so there's a lot of fun stuff, really fun stuff coming up in the next few episodes," Consuelos teased.

Honestly, what kind of father is this?

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
