Recurring 30 Rockguest star Rip Torn pleaded not guilty on Monday to drunken driving charges, stemming from a Dec. 14 arrest.
Torn appeared in a Bantam, Conn. superior court and pleaded not guilty to illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane, according to The Associated Press.
State police say a trooper pulled Torn over after he noticed the actor driving in the breakdown lane of Route 44 in Salisbury, Conn., the small town near the New York border where Torn lives. The actor was unable to complete a field sobriety test, complaining that the ground was not level enough. He then refused to take a breathalyzer.
This latest run-in with the law comes after Torn paid a $380 fine and lost his driver's license for 90 days in April 2007 for similar charges in New York. Also, a Manhattan jury acquitted him of drunken driving and causing a fender-bender in 2004.
Torn, who won an Emmy for his work on The Larry Sanders Show and is best known for his roles in the Men in Blackfilms, is due back in court Jan. 28.
