Real Steel beat up the weekend competition at the box office, grossing an estimated $27.3 million in its debut, Box Office Mojo reports.

The Hugh Jackman-starring family film was followed by the weekend's other major new release, George Clooney's latest directorial effort, The Ides of March. The political film, headlined by Ryan Gosling, drew $10.4 million.

Dolphin Tale jumps over Lion King at the box office

Last weekend's top film, Dolphin Tale, ranked third with $9.1 million. Moneyball came in at No. 4 with $7.5, followed by 50/50at No. 5 with $5.5 million.

Taking sixth place, Courageous scared up $4.6 million. The 3-D re-release of The Lion King took seventh with $4.55 million, bringing the re-release's total to $86 million and the movie's overall take to $414.5 million.

Rounding out the top 10: Dream House (No. 8, $4.5 million), What's Your Number? (No. 9, $3 million) and Abduction (No. 10, $2.9 million).
