The son of a former Real Housewives of Orange County star was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder early Monday morning.

Joshua Waring, whose mother Lauri Peterson was an original OC Housewife, was taken into custody after having allegedly shot a 35-year-old man in the lower torso, The Los Angeles Timesreports.

After responding to a shooting report at approximately 2:30 a.m. in Santa Ana, the Costa Mesa Police Department discovered the victim at his house. Other occupants at the residence identified Waring, 27, as the shooter.

"Apparently there had been a previous confrontation between [Waring] and the occupants of that residence earlier, and he had returned," Costa Mesa Police Lt. Paul Beckman said.

A Sheriff's Department helicopter managed to track Waring down eight hours later while he was driving a BMW SUV, which had been reported stolen. Waring attempted to flee in the vehicle, but was forced to abandon it after crashing. He then tried to run away on foot and hide in a local business.

"After a brief standoff, he surrendered without further incident to the Santa Ana police," the Costa Mesa police said in a statement.

The police found evidence related to the shooting inside the SUV, but no gun has been recovered. Waring was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, vehicle theft, felony evading, hit and run, assault and battery. His bail is set at $1 million.

During her time on Real Housewives, Peterson was very open about her son's struggles with addiction. On the reality show's fourth season in 2008, she decided to leave Housewives to focus on her family in the wake of Waring's arrest on a heroin possession charge. That year, Waring pled guilty to three felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, six misdemeanors related to drug use or possession and a hit-and-run.

As Waring's problems progressed, Peterson and her husband, George, decided to become the full-time guardians to Waring's 3-year-old daughter in 2015.

"As most of the viewers know, I have a son and he's had just a lot of challenges. And he and his wife had a baby almost three years ago. He's really struggling and, well, they're both really struggling. And so [my husband] George and I elected to help out and we actually adopted Kennedy, and so we're raising her," she told Bravo at the time.
