Ratings: Was Mars Girl-Powered?
Dancing with the Stars, 18.3 million viewers from 8 to 9:30, yada yada yada.... Placing second at 8 pm was NCIS (15.5 mil), followed by Fox's baseball coverage (7.8 mil) and the premiere of Friday Night Lights (7.2 mil). At 9, The Unit (13.2 million) for its first half-hour lost to Stars, but come 9:30 it trounced Help Me Help You (10.4 mil), while Veronica Mars returned to an (albeit avid) audience of 3.3 mil - on par with its Season 2 opener, but managing only 69 percent retention out of "sister show" Gilmore Girls. The 10 o'clock battle as usual went to SVU (14.2 million), with the also-rans being Boston Legal (10.6 mil) and Smith (8.4 mil, down a million-plus from last week and a full 2.6 mil from its premiere).
