According to Nielsen overnight data, the new show's audience improved by 6 percent upon its lead-in, Whitney, which itself scored an 11 percent increase over the sitcom's last original episode in early December, when it aired on Thursday after The Office. Nonetheless, Suburgatory far outpaced Are You There, Chelsea?More perspective: The premiere of American Idol is just around the corner.
CBS' 38th annualPeople's Choice Awardsposted a rating that was down 7 percent from a year ago. And ABC enjoyed its usual strong Wednesday prime time, led by Modern Family, while the debut of One Tree Hill's ninth and final season gave The CW its best showing in the time slot in nearly a year.
