See which stars she wants to dress!
Ashley Tipton, a 24-year-old fashion designer from San Diego, made Project Runwayhistory Thursday night when she won the show's 14th season with its first ever plus-size collection.
"This was the opportunity that I was given to showcase who I really am as a designer," she told People. "I had to show that this is what I design, and this is what I know."
Squee! Lifetime is bringing us a pint-sized Project Runway
Ashley started the season strong, winning two of the first three challenges, but was at risk of elimination in recent episodes. But her plus-size clothes, which she described as inspired as "Mexico City in the 1950s," brought something refreshing to the plus-size market, judge Nina Garcia said, enabling Tipton to seize the crown. (And we mean that kind of literally - her collection included some pretty snazzy floral headpieces.)
The winner told Hollywood Life that she'd love to work with actresses Rebel Wilson and Melissa McCarthy, both known for being outspoken advocates for plus-size women. "It is a multi-million dollar industry that's being ignored. Me, doing this, is bringing awareness. We need clothing for this industry. We need to be treated as equals to show that plus-size women can be fashionable trend-setters, we should be walking down the runway."
