Preview: Amanda and "XX" Fight Over Kyle XY!

As last week's Season 2 premiere of ABC Family's Kyle XY (Mondays at 8 pm/ET) came to a close, viewers got their first glimpse at the "new girl in town," the experiment "XX," who has seemingly survived the explosion at Zyzzx. How will this mysterious entity mess things up for Kyle and his sweet neighbor/perhaps-love-interest, Amanda? Kirsten Prout, who plays Amanda, gave TVGuide.com a sneak peek at the "girl trouble" ahead.

TVGuide.com: Hey, where are you? I saw the first episode and no Amanda yet.
Kirsten Prout: What they're doing is sort of getting into the whole Zyzzx story line, and then Amanda first shows up in the second episode. But that's what I said, too: "Uh-oh, where's Amanda?"

TVGuide.com: She's busy playing the piano.
Prout: [Laughs] She is, she's off playing her piano.

TVGuide.com: How are we spelling Zyzzx, anyway?
Prout: Z-z-y-z-x.

TVGuide.com: Do you have any idea how many points that gets you in Scrabble?
Prout: [Laughs] I'm pulling that out next time I play!

TVGuide.com: How have you been liking the buzz Kyle XY has going?
Prout: It's a real trip. I've sort of been recognized once or twice from [the 2005 movie] Elektra, which was ages ago, so I'm like, "What? You recognize me? I was like 13!" But then I started to get the whole, "Hey, are you on that show...?" I had heard that our ratings were good, but it was nice to see that things were getting out there and the reaction was good.

TVGuide.com: You have a bigger season this time.
Prout: Yeah, we've got 23 episodes.

TVGuide.com: I'm sorry I didn't see you in Elektra, but I avoided that out of principle, in that it was a spin-off of Daredevil.
Prout: No prob. Believe me, you're not the only one who hasn't seen it. [Laughs] To be honest, I was not a big fan of Daredevil at all, but Elektra, it didn't have anything from Daredevil. They just took a character that did really well in Daredevil and put her in her own movie.

TVGuide.com: And it was a good excuse to do some butt-kicking with Jennifer Garner.
Prout: Oh, yeah. I was in the best shape of my life during that movie! During Elektra, I could put my frickin' ankle behind my head. It was crazy. I trained every day with top stuntmen, and they whipped me into shape so well that I could do things I never knew my body could do.

TVGuide.com: So what are the big stories on Kyle XY this season? We have a new gal on the scene, this "Jessi XX." Is she trouble?
Prout: Oh, yeah. She's definitely trouble. She was designed like Kyle, but she's very different from him. She's a lot creepier, she lacks a lot of emotion.... She's, like, this creepy machine girl. The entire [Trager] family is torn up by this newcomer. Jaimie Alexander, who plays Jessi, does a frightfully good job. She's such a nice girl off set that I was like, "Wow, that's 'interesting' casting." But she gets on set and she's this emotionless, crazy character. It's really cool to see how she does it.

TVGuide.com: Is a big ol' love triangle ahead?
Prout: Jesus, yes. Kyle XY is all about the triangles! We were joking about that the other day: "Who's been in love with whom on this show?" This season is full of events and surprises and shocking twists.... The first season was setting up things, and the second season is all about the action. We've got so much going on.

TVGuide.com: Is Amanda going to find herself desperate to "hold on to" Kyle?
Prout: I wasn't expecting this but yes! She gets very defensive, I'm not going to lie to you. We're fleshing Amanda out a little more. We get to deal with the more emotional aspects of her.

TVGuide.com: As Jessi enters the mix, are you going to break out any of your tae kwon do?
Prout: Not so far, but I hope so! [Laughs] We don't ever know what the writers' ideas are, but one of them once threw out, "What if Amanda takes up tae kwon do or something?" and I started laughing so hard because it's so ludicrous. But it's so funny they'd even consider it!

TVGuide.com: Tell me about the movie you're doing this summer.
Prout: The bullet on that is that Kyle XY is filming through the summer now, so I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it. It's kind of sad, because I really, really loved the project, The Possibility of Fireflies [also starring Michelle Trachtenberg and Kelly Preston]. It was so tailor-made for me.

TVGuide.com: Well, hopefully it will somehow all work out. What's on your iPod?
Prout: The new Arcade Fire CD... and I discovered this band called the Cold War Kids, which is really good. I've picked up on a bunch of new bands from listening to satellite radio. I'm a concert lover; I can't not see a concert [that comes] to town — I'm really bad that way. I spend so much of my income on it, it's frightening.

TVGuide.com: And what are your favorite TV shows?
Prout: Well, I'm sort of in a sad state, because I was not very impressed with American Idol this season, Survivor is dead to me, Amazing Race... all of my reality shows are dead to me, so I've had to find other "real" shows, like Lost. I watch a bit of 24 here and there, and Supernatural I watch quite frequently.... But I'm definitely a Lost addict!
