Kiefer Sutherland is returning to TV as the kind of person Jack Bauer once protected: The 24 star will play the President of the United States in Designated Survivor, a thriller that has received a straight-to-series order from ABC, Deadline reports.
On Designated Survivor, Sutherland will play a lower-level Cabinet member who is appointed President after a terrorist attack during the State of the Union address kills everyone ahead of him in the presidential line of succession. This is exactly the type of thing Jack Bauer wouldn't let happen.
There is another project called Designated Survivor -- the term used for a member of the Cabinet who is hidden away in a safe location when the president and other top officials are gathered in one place so that there's someone to take the reins if there's a catastrophic event such as this — in development at Fox. Since ABC has picked up Sutherland's Designated Survivor straight to series, the Fox project will probably be affected.
Do you think Jack Bauer would make a good president?
