Coming off the heels of its premiere at SXSW in Austin, TX, the highly anticipated comic book adaptation Preacher will begin airing May 22nd at 10/9c on AMC, the network announced.

Preacher follows the journey of Jesse Custer, a Texas preacher "who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power."

AMC's Preacher looks terrifying and awesome

The series hails from executive producers Sam Caitlin, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun.

Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV, said "We're thrilled to finally be sharing this epic story with characters unlike any other on television. Sam Catlin, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have brought Garth's writing and Steve's artistry to life in the most gratifying way possible."

Preacher will follow the mid-season finale of Fear the Walking Dead.
