It's crazy that it's taken this long for Pokémon, the beloved video game and anime TV series, to get a live-action movie adaptation. But it's coming, in the form of Detective Pikachu, an adaptation of the game of the same name. The movie comes out in May 2019.

Detective Pikachu stars The Get Down's Justice Smith as Tim Goodman, a young man searching for his missing father, and Supernatural and Big Little Lies' Kathryn Newton as Lucy Stevens, a reporter helping him find the truth. And Ryan Reynolds provides the voice of Pikachu, a wisecracking electric mouse who only Tim can hear. (everyone else just hears the iconic "Pika Pika!" cry.)

As someone who grew up watching Pokémon and playing the Game Boy games (#RedVersionGang), this is exciting to me. Kids my age have been waiting for this for 20 years, you know?

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu hits theaters Friday, May 11, 2019.
