The fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film sailed to the top of the weekend box office, Box Office Mojo reports.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides brought in some major booty — an estimated $90.1 million — to become the top opening of 2011. However, the debut was notably lower than that of the second ($135.6 million) and third ($114.7 million) films. The film, starring Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, fared much better on foreign waters with a total of $256.3 million, making it the highest-grossing launch ever overseas.

Thor keeps the hammer down on Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids held steady in second place, grossing $21 million in its second week of release. After two weekends on top, Thor, fell to No. 3, drawing $15.5 million in ticket sales; its total gross now surpasses $145 million.

Fast Five parked at No. 4, attracting $10.6 million and bringing its total to $186.2 million. In fifth place, Rio took in $4.65 million (for a total of $131.6 million).

Priest followed close behind in sixth place with $4.6 million. Jumping the Broomcame in seventh, garnering $3.7 million.

Rounding out the top 10: Something Borrowed (No. 8, $3.4 million), Water for Elephants (No. 9, $2.1 million) and Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family (No. 10, $990,000).
