Indira Varma Indira Varma

Inside the Box, the Shonda Rhimes-produced ABC pilot about a Washington, D.C. network news bureau, has found its female lead, and she is perhaps more Earl Grey than Meredith Grey.

U.K.-bred actress Indira Varma — whom you may know as Niobe from HBO's Rome (and who more recently played Booth's Scotland Yard counterpart on Bones) — will fill the plum role of Catherine, an ambitious news reporter who is described by the Hollywood Reporter as " fast-talking, whip-smart and wound a little too tight for her own good."

Setting the Inside the Box pilot in motion is Catherine's fervent bid for a well-earned promotion. Alas, she gets passed over.

As previously announced, playing the McDreamy to Varma's Catherine is New Zealander Martin Henderson (and not Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Varma's credits also include Torchwood, CBS' short-lived 3 LBS. and the big screen's Bride & Prejudice (starring, small world alert, Henderson as Will Darcy). Born to a south Indian father, Varma is also known to talk smack about Bollywood bombshell Aishwarya Rai, which is kinda cool/juicy.

Inside the Box is from writer Richard E. Robbins and exec-produced by Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

What's your take on this pilot lead? Me, I knew they'd go brunette after placing Kim Raver and Jennifer Finnigan in other roles. I'm just curious if Varma will/can drop her British accent.
