Morgan told Jay Leno on Wednesday's The Tonight Show that he signed a new deal with NBC to continue as a judge on America's Got Talent, but wouldn't say how that could affect the possibility of him replacing Larry King on CNN.
The Wrap, however, reports that NBC Universal Television Entertainment chairman Jeff Gaspin said Thursday that Morgan's new contract at NBC meant the network would share the 45-year-old Celebrity Apprentice winner with CNN.
In June, CNN denied a report by Britain's The Daily Telegraph that said Morgan was near a four-year deal to take over King's show in the fall. Deadline.com also reported earlier this month that View panelist Joy Behar was in talks to replace King.
If Morgan — a former editor of Britain's The Mirror — were to join CNN, he would be the first British journalist with an American primetime news program.
A rep for CNN declined to comment, and an email to Morgan's rep was not immediately returned.
