Music producer Phil Ramone passed away Saturday morning in New York, his family confirmed to CNN. He was 72.

Music producer Phil Ramone passed away Saturday morning in New York, his family confirmed to CNN. He was 72.
Called the "Pope of Pop," Ramone won 14 Grammys throughout his five-decade career and worked with some of the industry's top artists, including Madonna, Bob Dylan, Burt Bacharach, Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney  and Frank Sinatra.

Following news of his death, many of his collaborators released statements or tweeted to pay their respects."I always thought of Phil Ramone as the most talented guy in my band.... The music world lost a giant today," Billy Joel said. Stevie Wonder called him "the star of stars behind the stars."Gleestar Matthew Morrison tweeted, "Today the music business and the world lost a music icon in Phil Ramone. I am honored that I had the opportunity to work with him on my forthcoming album, which I dedicate to him.""I'm filled with sadness at the news of Phil Ramone's passing. He was a great friend and made music the right way," Josh Groban wrote.Ramone is survived by his wife Karen Ichiuji-Ramone and their three sons.
