And just like that, People of Earth has been abducted from the lives of fans.
TBS originally renewed the alien comedy series last fall, following a decent result from its second season, but now the network has changed course, as showrunner David Jenkins announced on Twitter Saturday that the series had been shuttered.
"Just got word last night: TBS has cancelled People of Earth," he wrote. "Thank you to everyone who was a fan of the show and enjoyed its gentle, amiable sci-fi weirdness. It was an honor sharing this show with you. Let's do it again soon. Love you all."
Jenkins added that the show's third season, which was originally okayed in September 2017, was already written and ready for production but "will not be shot."
In late May, he'd previously hinted at an ax looming over the series (instead of those curious spaceships that have caused its zany characters so much trouble), asking fans to alert TBS to their interest in seeing the third season come through.
If all that wasn't upsetting enough for fans of the series, writer Brig Muñoz-Liebowitz hinted that the new season would've been awesome, as written.
