The spin-off wasn't meant to last

It's one and done for the Suitsspin-off Pearson at USA. The cable network decided not to order a second season of the Gina Torres-led drama, TV Guide has confirmed, which means the Suits universe is officially done.

Pearson launched alongside the Suits final season this summer, but the spin-off was only able to bring in half of the flagship show's viewing audience in same-day ratings. The approximately 500,000 weekly viewers made Pearson the lowest rated scripted series on USA in 2019, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series followed Gina Torres' Jessica Pearson from New York to Chicago where, stripped of her law license, the former managing partner of Pearson Hardman became a fixer for the Chicago mayor. It was a gritty political thriller versus Suits' glitzy corporate law drama. As TV Guide pointed out ahead of the Pearson premiere, the show's dark contrast to the original series may have made it difficult for Suits fans to get on board, though Torres delivered a powerful performance in her first series leading role.

The news of the cancellation comes roughly six weeks after the show concluded its first season run. Suits also ended its run in September, closing the door on that universe at USA -- at least for now.
