Goodbye Salingers, hello Acostas!

Party of Five is getting a reboot -- with a progressive twist.

Freeform has ordered 10 episodes of the Party of Five reboot. This time around, rather than focusing on the Salinger siblings, whose parents were killed in a drunk driving accident, the new series will center on the Acosta siblings as they navigate daily life struggles to survive as a family unit after their parents are suddenly deported to Mexico.

This twist is in keeping with Freeform's "a little forward" agenda, which aims to dismantle conventions and provide a more inclusive space for storytelling. Party of Five marks the first reboot Freeform has attempted.

The series will star Brandon Larracuente (13 Reasons Why) as Emilio, Emily Tosta (Mayans M.C.) as Lucia, Niko Guardado (The Goldbergs) as Beto and Elle Paris Legaspi (Vida) as Valentina. Original creators Christopher Keyser and Amy Lippman will executive produce the series.
