Paranormal Activity 3 didn't just beat its two predecessors in its debut weekend — it beat every other horror movie in history to become the best horror movie opening ever, Box Office Mojo reports.

The film scared up an estimated $54 million in its opening weekend, also topping last year's Jackass 3D as the highest fall opening of all time.

Box Office: Real Steel takes down Footloose, The Thing remakes

The No. 1 film for the last two weeks, Real Steel, came in second with $11.3 million. Footloose danced up $10.9 million to come in at No. 3.

One of the weekend's two other new releases, The Three Musketeers, earned $8.8 million for fourth place. The Ides of Marchcompleted the top five with $4.9 million. Coming in at No. 6, Dolphin Tale drew $4.2 million. Moneyballfollowed closely with $4.05 million to take seventh. Of the weekend's three new releases, Johnny English Reborn fared the worst, coming in at No. 8 with $3.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10: The Thing (No. 9, $3.1 million) and 50/50 (No. 10, $2.8 million).
