Droughtlander continues, but it was made a little easier when the cast and producers of Outlander dropped the first Season 5 trailer at New York Comic Con. The new footage confirmed that Season 5 will be as action-packed as ever, showing that Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) must pick their allegiances as the American Revolution begins to heat up.
Of course, the fighting and revolting will now include Bree (Sophie Skelton), Roger (Richard Rankin), and their baby after the couple decided to stay in the past at the end of Season 4. The question remains whether the family will be forced off their land at Fraser's Ridge if Jamie doesn't follow the Governor's order and hand over Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix).
The teaser reveals that Claire will endure a battle in her own mind as she agonizes over whether it's safer for Bree in her own time, but she vows, "I am going to keep her safe her — time, space, history be damned."
During the panel, the cast talked about how the central love story will continue to blossom in the new season, despite the strife. "It's so wonderful to be able to play a relationship that keeps growing and growing and deepening and deepening," Balfe said. "That time and the love that they have for each other, it keeps expanding. You don't think it's possible from Season 1, but it really does. They support each other in really tough, tough times."
Heughan added, "They're a great unit. They're a great partnership. They're out there looking out for their family and their extended family. Together, they're really strong ... We had a scene the other day of shooting where we made love without making love."
Outlander Season 5 premieres Sunday, Feb. 16 on Starz.
