Oscar Nominee for Best Original Song Is Disqualified
The Academy has rescinded the Best Original Song Oscar nomination for "Alone Yet Not Alone," from the movie of the same name. The disqualification comes after Bruce Broughton, who wrote the music, was found to have violated the Academy's rule to campaign in a "fair and ethical manner." Broughton, who is a Music Branch executive committee member, had emailed other members of the branch during the nominations voting period to let them know that his song was nominated, according to the Academy.

"No matter how well-intentioned the communication, using one's position as a former governor and current executive committee member to personally promote one's own Oscar submission creates the appearance of an unfair advantage," said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs.
The Academy will not name another nominee to replace "Alone Yet Not Alone." The remaining four contenders are "Happy" from Despicable Me 2, "Let It Go" from Frozen, "The Moon Song" from Her, and "Ordinary Love" from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
The Oscars will air live on ABC on Sunday, March 2.
