Originals' Michael Trevino on Getting Revenge: Tyler Absolutely Has it In Him to Kill Hayley

Tyler Lockwood has said his goodbyes to Mystic Falls and is heading on down to the Big Easy. From sire bond to mortal enemies, the relationship between The Vampire Diaries' Tyler (Michael Trevino) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) took a sharp turn when Klaus killed Tyler's mom last season. Tyler attempted revenge, but when his plans went awry he was forced to leave town. But Klaus had one weak spot — Caroline (Candice Accola)  — and allowed Tyler to come back so that his love could be happy. With the damage already done and his path for vengeance ignited, Tyler ultimately chose seeking redemption over his girlfriend, college and a chance at a (somewhat) normal life. On Tuesday's episode of The Originals (8/7, The CW)— the first of the two shows crossing over —Tyler will face the Original baddie once again.

On the Set With Vampire Diaries' Candice Accola: Things have changed for Caroline and Tyler

Last time that Tyler had a plan, Klaus caught wind of it first. Will this one be more shocking?

Michael Trevino: Most definitely Klaus is shocked; this time it's more of a sneak attack. Last time, his plan involved a pack of hybrids as he was trying to build this army and be more of the aggressor. Here the tactics are more psychological because he's coming with a little bit of information and background on Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), something we don't know about her yet ... and it's going to affect a lot of people.

How is the relationship between Hayley and Tyler when they reunite?
Trevino:
It's not good. She backstabbed him, and so Tyler is really coming to New Orleans as a villain.

Ultimate revenge on Klaus could be killing Hayley and his baby. Do you think he has it in him to be that evil?
Trevino:
I do. Tyler has always been surrounded by death, and Klaus killed his mother, and Hayley had something to do with that. So is it in him? Absolutely.

The CW orders full seasons of The Originals, The Tomorrow People and Reign

What will make viewers root for Tyler now that he's stepping into Klaus' territory?
Trevino:
It reminds me of Tyler in Season 1 where people didn't like him as much and he was just evil and mean.  Now he has a backstory, and we know why Tyler is so aggressive. And since fans of the show know what's happened to him, people won't hate him as much because they know what he's been though.

How did you feel when you found out Tyler and Caroline would essentially break up?
Trevino: It was sad that in every previous moment of Tyler coming and going it's been out of his control. This is the first time Tyler made a choice and left and decided to make things right so he can go on with his life.

Now that The Originals was picked up for a full season, does that mean we'll definitely see a lot of you?
Trevino:
Well my percentage just went up a little bit then. But it's to be determined. I don't know if I'll be going back and forth between both shows or not.

The Originals airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
