The Originals: Danielle Campbell Reflects on the "Really Emotional" Episode and a New Villain

[SPOILER ALERT: : This story contains spoilers from Tuesday's The Originals. Read at your own risk.] So much for resurrecting the dead witches on The Originals. On Tuesday's episode, the Mikaelsons, along with Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), watched as Sophie (Daniella Pineda) slit Davina (Danielle Campbell)'s throat and then performed the harvest that was to be completed with the reaping and resurrect her and her fallen "chosen ones." Only the plan didn't work and Davina remained lifeless. However, something happened because in the final moments of the hour, three witches rose out of the cemetery and were greeted by Sabine aka Celeste, Elijah's witchy ex from the 1800s.

Watch My Show: The Originals' Julie Plec answers our showrunner survey

While it remains to be seen whether Davina's death is permanent, Campbell says the episode was the pinnacle for her character.

"This was a really strong point for Davina. The whole series you've seen her running away from her problems and the witches and her powers," Campbell tells TVGuide.com. "[In the episode,] she's so sick, but you also see her be strong for once. She's [sacrificing herself] because she knows she's going to hurt the people she loves -- even though they've hurt her -- if she doesn't go through with it. So you see a completely different side of Davina and you see her really take a stand and be strong."

Although viewers have seen the history of Davina and Marcel's relationship since the initial harvest and watched it develop through the first half of the season, the episode portrayed just how deep their connection went. "It was really emotional," Campbell says. "During the scene where Marcel is cradling Davina, you really see how their friendship and bond has grown. He's really become the only father figure she's ever had and he has protected her, and she's protective of him too. So you see how much they really love each other." About filming the intense sequence, Campbell adds, "When Charles was carrying me through with the fire behind us and the rain coming down, those were some of the coolest shots I've ever done. It was so dramatic and the kind of scene every actor looks forward to."

With the end of the episode introducing yet another twist, Campbell says that Celeste (Shannon Kane) is absolutely the show's next villain.

"The witches are continuing to try and fulfill the harvest and everyone else has also been away trying to help it move along," she says. "Everyone wants these girls back alive, but in another way, Celeste brings her own twist to everything. That is what will headline the next episodes."

The Originals airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW. Do you think Davina is really dead?
