Gloria Estefan is joining the One Day at a Time family for a guest-starring role in Season 3. The legendary singer, who also performs the Netflix reboot's theme song, will appear in one episode as Mirtha, Lydia's (Rita Moreno) much-discussed, but previously never seen younger sister and arch-nemesis.

When it comes to casting Lydia's sister, we couldn't think of anyone more worthy to play opposite Moreno that Estefan, who has three Grammys under her belt and Ellis Island Congressional Medal of Honor. In addition to Estefan's celebrated singing career, she has also appeared on Jane the Virginand Glee.

Estefan revealed the exciting news on Instagram, singing the announcement to the tune of the theme song. "I've been waiting three seasons for this, people," Estefan added. "Oh my gosh, get ready. It's hilarious."

Mirtha immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba with Lydia in 1962, but the sisters haven't spoken for 20 years. In the series, Lydia previously explained that this feud is because she thought Mirtha stole her scarf, which her grandson Alex (Marcel Ruiz) later found in a living room drawer. With Mirtha finally making an appearance on One Day at a Time next season, hopefully this means the sisters can squash their silly beef. Although, if Mirtha is anything like her older sister, we bet there will still be some dramatic fireworks between them either way.
