Since women's soccer became a sport in the Olympics, the U.S. Women's team has never missed a final game and continues the streak this week. In Monday's semifinals, the U.S. won 4-3 in the second round of extra time against Canada to cement their place in the finals..

Going into a 3-3 tie, Alex Morgan scored the last game-winning goal at the 122-minute mark, literally in the nick of time. Otherwise, the U.S. and Canada would have been heading into a penalty-kick shootout to determine who would advance. Earlier in the game, Megan Rapinoe helped to keep the U.S. women's soccer team alive, scoring two goals to keep up with Christine Sinclair, who scored three goals for the Canadians. Abby Wambach tied the game in the 80' minute during a penalty shot, sending the teams into extra time.

Olympic Moment: Who completed the career grand slam: Serena Williams or Maria Sharapova?

The United States will now face Japan in the gold medal match, which will be a rematch from the 2011 World Cup, in which the Japanese ended up winning 3-1 in the penalty-kick shootout.

The gold medal game will air live Thursday at 2:30 ET/11:30 PT. Check local listings for station.
