The U.S. women's soccer team found redemption at the Olympics on Thursday, beating the Japanese team 2-1 in the gold medal game, making this their third consecutive gold medal, fourth overall.

The game was a rematch of last year's World Cup, in which the Americans lost during penalty-kick shootouts to the Japanese 3-1. This match was dominated by Carli Lloyd, who scored both goals for the Americans, one of which came within the first eight minutes of the first half. Yuki Ogimi scored Japan's only goal in the 63rd minute.
