A New Wedding — And a New Reality Show — For Bravo Breakout NeNe Leakes

Nene Leakes is The Real Housewives of Atlanta's breakout star thanks to her sitcom gig in NBC's short-lived The New Normal, a recurring role on Glee and now, her own spin-off series. I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding (premiering Tuesday Sept. 17 at 9/8c on Bravo) follows Leakes and her ex-husband, Gregg, in their journey to tying the knot — again. NeNe gave TV Guide Magazine the scoop on why the second time's the charm.

TV Guide Magazine: Why did you give your marriage a second chance?
NeNe Leakes:
The love between us never died. There was anger and resentment, but the love and respect held strong. Through all of our ups and downs, we knew we were meant to be. No relationship is easy, but you know when one is worth the fight. This is our family. We will fight for it.

TV Guide Magazine: Why did you and Gregg decide to televise your wedding?
Leakes:
Housewives followed us throughout the joys of our marriage to its decline and reconciliation. I felt it only fitting for the audience to be with us, as Gregg and I came back together. I wanted to share our love and tell our story about how we fought to keep our family together.

TV Guide Magazine: What can viewers look forward to throughout the series?
Leakes:
I planned the wedding in two months so the pressure was incredibly high. If you tune in, you can watch all the drama from the planning to the actual wedding and the all night reception and everything in between. I should be a wedding planner!

TV Guide Magazine: It certainly sounds like there was a lot of pressure. In the promo, you say the wedding planning is a "horror show."
Leakes:
You will see every sort of wedding disaster and nine bridesmaids-zillas. The only disaster you won't see is a runaway bride. I was not running in my Louboutins!

TV Guide Magazine: Are any of your Housewives costars in your bridal party?
Leakes:
I am very close with Cynthia Bailey and Marlo Hampton. They were both members of my bridal party. They helped me tone down my inner bridezilla. Porsha Stewart also makes an appearance.

TV Guide Magazine: How did you land your own show?
Leakes:
I was the first housewife from Atlanta to be offered a spin-off, but I've just been too busy doing other shows. It is hard to have cameras follow you 24/7. We were finally able to schedule it in during summer hiatus. It all happened very quickly.

TV Guide Magazine: What do you think of your Kandi Burruss and Kim Zolciak's spin-offs?
Leakes:
I haven't seen them.

TV Guide Magazine: What's coming up on Glee?
Leakes:
Coach Roz is at it again! She is coming back for a few episodes to continue challenging Coach Sue and McKinley High. It's such a fun role to play. Ryan Murphy is truly my Fairy Godmother.

TV Guide Magazine: What is your favorite Housewives cast, besides Atlanta?
Leakes:
I love New Jersey! They are some true gangstas over there. They have been getting a little nasty lately, but still makes for great TV.
