May may be the month for mothers, but on streaming, it's all about sisters. Days after Netflix's estranged sisters drama Sirens debuts, Prime Video has its own estranged sisters drama. The Better Sister, starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks as sisters whose lives took really different paths, is the highlight of Prime Video's new TV shows and movies in May. Also coming this month are Benito Skinner's college comedy Overcompensating and the coming-of-age YA drama Motorheads, which blends first loves with first cars, and both of them are fast!

For those who prefer their TV about things with eight arms, you'll have to make do with eight tentacles. Octopus! is a lively two-part docuseries about octopuses narrated by Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge. On the movie side of things, the Prime Video original Another Simple Favor is out at the top of the month, along with all of the Lord of the Rings movies.

Below, you'll find our picks for the best shows and movies to watch on Amazon Prime Video in May, as well as everything coming to Prime Video this month.

Octopus! (May 8)

Octopuses are colorful, playful, and fascinating, so why shouldn't a documentary about them be the same? Phoebe Waller-Bridge narrates this two-part docuseries that looks at the world's most popular cephalopod through the eyes of the people who love them most, including... Tracy Morgan? [Trailer]

Overcompensating (May 15)

Benito Skinner is an online comedian who gained popularity on Instagram, TikTok, and the like, which, as an old person, means I had no chance of knowing who he is. But now I do! And you know what? He's funny, and his new show is even funnier. The college comedy Overcompensating, a co-production between Prime Video and A24, stars Skinner as a closeted freshman faking his way through a whole new social scene with the help of fellow frosh Carmen (Wally Baram). It hits all the classic sex romp comedy tropes and updates them for today, but really shines with Skinner and Baram creating layered characters whose friendship you can really root for. It's even good enough to make you ignore the hilarity of 30-year-old actors playing 18-year-old characters trying to get fake IDs. [Trailer]

Motorheads (May 20)

Are cars more reliable than girlfriends and boyfriends? Maybe we'll get our answer from this new YA drama series that mixes teenage love with street racing, because crashing and burning is a common denominator between both of them. Set in a rust belt town in Pennsylvania, Motorheads stars Ryan Phillippe as a former NASCAR mechanic who moves back to his hometown, which is apparently full of kids who are handy with a wrench and like to drive fast. The Better Sister (May 29)

The Better Sister stars Jessica Biel as a successful media executive living the dream with her high-power lawyer husband (Corey Stoll) and Elizabeth Banks as her sister, who is just trying to make ends meet. When the husband is brutally killed, the sisters reconnect and uncover family secrets that might gives them answers about the murder. [Trailer]
