Zooey Deschanel heard a really big ka-ching! in October, after coins from the sale of her website hellogiggles.com — reported to be anywhere between $20 and $30 million — hit her account. Other people heard it too, including her former manager who came roaring in like Cookie Lyon to claim a piece of that empire.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Seven Summits Pictures & Management filed a complaint in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday saying the company represented Deschanel from 1996 until 2013 - the time she went from an unknown to the acting, Grammy-nominated explosion of cute we know today.
Seven Summits claims entitlement to 10 percent of all her earnings for entertainment activities, including money from the website, New Girl and a Tommy Hilfiger campaign. Deschanel's reps have yet to respond but a defense is likely.
Gee, that sounds rough, and if we were Zooey we'd totally be reaching for a cat video and Etsy pillow right about now.
