Jim Henson's legacy lives on, and now it's going to be streaming on Netflix. Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance is a prequel to the 1982 classic The Dark Crystal which takes us back to the earlier days in Thra, before the major conflicts between the evil Skeksis and gentle Gelflings. A brand new trailer shows just how some of these comes into play, while also revealing the gorgeous puppetry used for the series.
The brand new trailer expands on what we've already saw in the first trailer, and gives us a better understanding of the plot and just what's happening in Thra. According to Netflix's official description, "The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins."
The series takes place "many years" before the original movie, and the voice cast for the series is completely stacked. Just a handful of some familiar voices you'll hear include likes of Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nathalie Emmanuel, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, and Lena Headey.
All 10 episodes will be released on Netflix on Aug. 30.
