The movie comes to Netflix this December
Writer-director Noah Baumbach has made a career out of dissecting the relationships of neurotic New Yorkers. One of the formative texts for the kind of thing he does is Kramer vs. Kramer, the Oscar-winning divorce drama starring Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep. Now, he's doing his own Netflix movie take on Kramer vs. Kramer with Marriage Story, an Oscar contender starring Adam Driver -- the Dustin Hoffman of our time -- and Scarlett Johansson with short hair. Netflix released the trailer on Thursday.
Marriage Story follows a stage director (Driver) and an actress (Johansson) as they go through a divorce, which involves going back-and-forth between New York and Los Angeles, worrying about their son, and having hard conversations with everyone in their lives. The cast includes Laura Dern, Alan Alda, Merritt Wever, and Ray Liotta.
The film will release in select theaters Wednesday, Nov. 6, before reaching Netflix on Friday, Dec. 6.
