Become Your Favorite Netflix Character with New and Improved Profile Icons

Your Netflix experience is getting even more personalized

Liam Mathews

For years, your avatar on your Netflix user profile has been a weird little drawing. It may even be the default smiley face. You probably didn't even know you could change it! But you can, and now you can change it to something fun from a Netflix show.

But you're going to want to make it your own, because Netflix is zhuzhing up profiles with dozens of customizable icons. You can make your avatar a character or thing from your favorite Netflix show or movie. Want to be the Demogorgon from Stranger Things? Go ahead! Want to be Maury the Hormone Monster from Big Mouth? All you! Want to be Iron Fist? Sure, it's your life. At first I thought I wanted to be the upside down American flag from House of Cards, not because I like that show, but because one of my favorite bands is Rage Against the Machine. But then I decided I wanted to be the orc cop from Bright because that movie sucks and I'm addicted to irony and would never represent myself with something I actually like.

Netflix has even provided a handy flowchart to help you choose what your icon should be if you can't decide.

Not every Netflix show is represented, so you can't be Ed Kemper from Mindhunter, but hopefully more will be added over time.

You can change your Netflix icon by going to "Manage Profile" on the home screen, clicking the pencil icon and selecting a new icon. On mobile, you can find the "Manage Profile" section in the "More" tab.
