Plus: Hetty's back -- but there's a catch
[Warning: This article contains spoilers from Sunday's episode of NCIS: LA. Read at your own risk!]
Well, it finally happened. At long last, Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) popped the question to Kensi (Daniela Ruah) on Sunday's episode of NCIS: LA. Does it still count as a proposal if one of the participants is unconscious?
That's right -- Kensi's still in a medically-induced coma after the helicopter crash we saw in the season premiere, but that doesn't stop Deeks from putting a ring on it. (In fact, it actually sort of prompts him to do so.) Deeks and the rest of the team are still anxiously awaiting answers about what, if any, long-term impacts Kensi will suffer. A nurse tells Deeks that while Kensi's tests look good, the worst-case scenario is that she'll be paralyzed on the left side of her body. And when Deeks places the engagement ring on her finger, her hand twitches -- but unfortunately, the doctor tells Deeks that that (and a subsequent movement in her feet) are just involuntary muscle spasms. There's still no sign of brain activity.
NCIS: LA boss: Uncovering the mole will have "catastrophic results"
But, in some ways, the team isn't feeling Kensi's absence at all. Because for now, they've got a worthy replacement in the field in the form of ... Nell?
Yep, this week's MVP is Nell (Renee Felice Smith), who steps up in a big way and takes down, literally, not one, but two suspects in the course of a few hours. She may be tiny, but she packs one Nell of a punch. (Sorry.) Even Deeks takes notice and says he's happy to have her as his temporary partner.
Of course, the other member of the team who's MIA is Hetty (Linda Hunt), who's being interrogated by Undersecretary Duggan (Jackson Hurst) after turning herself in as the mole last week. He's desperate to make an example out of her for how the country deals with traitors, but Hetty's one tough nut to crack and she's not giving anything up, no matter how much scotch Duggan tries to ply her with. (That's not the case for his assistant, however -- who would have pegged the buttoned-up Duggan for a cosplayer?!)
When Hetty asks the Secretary of Defense about Duggan, though, he tells her that Duggan requested to go to NCIS: LA. Hmm... what's his endgame? And most importantly, Hetty asks him to be reinstated as head of NCIS, and he grants her wish -- with the condition that she'll the mole issue resolved within 90 days or resign. Let the countdown begin!
NCIS: LA airs Sundays at 8/7c on CBS.
