NBC Has Canceled Timeless For a Second Time

This one really hurts

NBC has gone and done the thing we specifically asked them not to do: cancel Timeless. Deadline reports that the time-traveling series has been given the ax for the second time, which is bad news for fans still reeling from that massive cliffhanger in the Season 2 finale.

Timeless closed out its second season with Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) being shot and killed (for real this time) while out on a mission. But before Lucy (Abigail Spencer), Wyatt (Matt Lanter) and Jiya (Claudia Doumit) could even process that major loss, future versions of Wyatt and Lucy showed up with an important new mission: bring back Rufus. Obviously, the show cannot end things like that. We need closure.

But all hope is not lost! Sony TV, which produces the series, and NBC are reportedly in talks to finish the story with a special two-hour movie much like Netflix recently did for Sense8.

Timeless Needs to Be Renewed After Breaking Our Hearts and Brains

NBC previously canceled Timeless after Season 1 but, after a massive outcry from fans, reversed their decision and gave the order for a 10-episode Season 2. The chances of repeating that magic at the network are slim, but there's some hope that the show can find a home elsewhere.

Sony TV head Jeff Frost told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that the studio had a contingency plan in case NBC didn't opt to renew the show for a third season. "In the event that it doesn't go forward, we have a number of conversations going on with a number of interested parties. We really hope that NBC sees the light. If they don't, we are very anxious to try set it up someplace else," he said.
